October 2007 THE JACQUES GARCIA COLLECTION OF LIGHTING AND ACCESSORIES
CHICAGO (October 1, 2007) – To round out the new furniture designs for The Jacques Garcia Collection, Baker introduced sophisticated lighting and accessories designed by Jacques Garcia at the Fall 2007 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C. The impressive line-up includes six table lamps, four floor lamps, two chandeliers, and two sconces along, with an elegant assortment of accessories including two trays and a series of unique porcelain goblets, vases and urn designs. Decidedly modern, yet with the familiarity of traditional materials and decorative elements, the lighting and accessories are exclusive to Baker.
Hand-crafted in small craft shops in and around Florence, Italy, the lighting draws its import from the finest in materials and hand metalwork. The custom-designed shades are individual to each base. Two shades incorporate an industrial component in its fitted brass diffusers, while two others are fashioned from faceted six-inch crystal beads strung in cascading lengths. Lastly, there are a series of silk shades, including two silk designs pleated in crisp detail.
The bases are a sophisticated blend of faceted rock crystal, two styles of Murano glass – crystal clear or blown to incorporate wisps of gold within its iridescent depths – and stunning hand fabricated metal finished in Polished Bronze or Polished Chrome. The table lamps feature in-line, on-off lighting control switches and floor versions are fitted with a foot activated on-off pedal. All lighting is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Approved.
To complete this Market’s introductions, Garcia designed a series of tabletop accessories that evoke a modern, understated presence with dramatic scale to draw the eye and command attention within a room. The porcelain urns, vases and goblets are hand-sculpted by Italian artisans.
Once complete, the originals are used to create precise molds. Porcelain is hand-poured into the master molds, then finished in White or Black glaze and expertly fired. Also hand-crafted in Italy are two tray designs by Garcia – an 18-inch-square tray hand-carved from hardwood and a 17-inch rectangular, hand-poured resin tray. The trays are offered in a choice of rich Black or brilliant Red lacquer.
