THE MILLING ROAD COLLECTION GIVES TRADITIONAL FORMS
MODERN APPEAL THROUGH STRAIGHFORWARD STYLING

CHICAGO (October 20, 2005) - At the Fall 2005 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC., Baker unveiled its latest designs to its highly successful Milling Road Collection. Featuring an eclectic mix of 18 new forms, the pieces are stylish and urbane without sacrificing the exquisite detailing and meticulous craftsmanship that has long been the company's trademark. The classic silhouettes have been pared down for everyday use making a statement with a whisper instead of a shout.

"These new pieces have noble bloodlines but are designed specifically for today's less fussy homes and lifestyles," stated Jay Paschall, director - new product development, Baker Knapp & Tubbs. "We've taken what are clearly traditional forms and scaled them down to the most critical elements, crafting clean, sophisticated pieces that are dramatic without being excessive."

The new Rococo bed exemplifies this modern stance on simplified luxury. The handsome carved moldings on the cherry veneer headboard and footboard offer the playful lines and graceful curves that characterize this 18th century styling, but without the excess embellishment that might make it a bit too precious. It is an exquisite piece with its roots in history but with its feet firmly planted in the present.

Another lovely yet thoroughly utilitarian piece is the new Wine Chest. This hardwood chest has three drawers that are fitted to house wine bottles and serving utensils and is anchored by a forged steel metal stand with a handy lower shelf. Uncomplicated lines and clever functionality define this piece, while the two-toned Aged European Brown finish adds depth of character.

The new striking mahogany Bookcase is handsome and functional. This dramatic cabinet is perfect as a library piece or as a place to display beloved objects d'art. Substantial in its chest-on-chest appearance, this cabinet offers four framed beveled glass sliding doors and four convenient storage drawers.

Also chic and well-designed is the Rosewood Media Cabinet, which has a richly figured pau ferro veneer that complements its straightforward style. Designed to house a standard 42-inch plasma TV and its components, this cabinet sits atop a metal base embellished with silver leaf. Bold and full of character, but with a streamlined sensibility, this cabinet embodies the new forms from Milling Road.

"There is nothing uncomplicated about these pieces," said Joe McCambridge, designer for The Milling Road Collection. "The care and craftsmanship that went into each piece is remarkable, but never fussy or overstated. We have continued to make functionality a high priority. The pieces were meticulously designed to maximize usefulness without sacrificing beauty and refinement."
