October 2004
FABRICS WITH A VINTAGE FEEL MADE MODERN FOR MILLING ROAD

HICAGO (October 14, 2004) -A luxurious blend of unique patterns, eye-popping hues and sophisticated neutrals defined The Milling Road Collection of new fabrics introduced by Baker at the Fall 2004 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC. Fabrics in nearly 50 new patterns and colors were introduced, as well as four superb new leathers.

This season, the fabrics have been gathered into three distinct color families:

Rosewood, a sophisticated mix of chocolaty brown, deep crimson, soft green and dusty rose, offers a traditional color selection that will enhance any setting.

Sangria, a bold assortment of regal purple, sumptuous ruby, and spicy orange, has an almost retro feel of fun and flare.

Spa, a cool collection of minty green, soft beige and cream, and pale blue, offers a palette that is at once soothing and refreshing.

"We are offering a very eclectic mix this Market - there's something for every setting," said Dennis Anderson, independent showroom and store merchandiser, and color consultant for The Milling Road Collection. "There are some classic tweeds and plaids that would enhance an entire room of upholstered furniture, along with some bold geometric designs and unique floral patterns that would be perfect for defining a single special piece."

Included in the floral patterns this Market is a damask in a soft bouclé. With colorful raised flowers over a neutral base, this fabric has a soft feel and appearance that is feminine without being precious. Also included is a ladylike lisere, a jacquard fabric, which has become increasingly popular. With its deep colors and curling flowered vines, this version is charming yet refined.

In addition, there is a bold striped velvet with dramatic leaves and blooms of varying shades, as well as a soft vintage cabbage rose pattern in muted tones. Finally, there is an unusually detailed print that fairly hums with personality, a striking combination of fruit and flowers that also includes an exotic bird with flowing plumes tossed in for further dramatic effect.

In contrast to the floral patterns, there are geometric styles that range from the subtle to the dramatic, such as the Chinese step pattern reminiscent of an intricate maze of elegant and exacting lines. There are unique stripes, such as a textured velvet in a rainbow of shades, and a bold stripe with a broad width and remarkably soft hand.

No collection would be complete without a number of old-fashioned tweeds, updated with subtle flashes of color and a surprisingly soft finish. This fall there are three: a sophisticated version in gorgeous hues with a hefty weight; a soft bouclé style made dressy with a slight sheen; and a diamond pattern in rich colors that is opulent without being too dressy. There is also a spirited paisley that bursts with color and character, its swoops and curls alive with vivid hues and elegant detailing, and a beefy quilted velvet in smart, stylish hues like mushroom and lichen.

The four leathers this season include a soft, textured brown that offers a stylish maturity to a sofa or club chair, and a luxurious mahogany suede. Rounding out the choices is a leather in succulent evergreen with a soft, rich finish, and a cool, seagrass green suede.
