Baker Expands Its Milling Road Accessory Line with Three New Mirrors

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (October 16, 2003) - In keeping with its tradition of offering distinctive room accessories to accompany its furniture, Baker introduced three highly unusual and elegant mirrors for the Milling Road collection at the Fall 2003 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC. They are the perfect addition to a room, both complementing classic furniture and making their own bold decorative statement.

Throughout decorating history, mirrors have been used as versatile ornamental elements; to make a room appear larger, to reflect back the colorful images of a room full of furnishings and light, or to simply allow people to catch a subtle glimpse of themselves and others in the room. They are a uniquely fun and functional accessory.

A classic mid-17th century design is the inspiration behind Milling Road's new Leather Mirror. The beveled mirror is surrounded by a curvaceous, deeply carved frame and accentuated by a single carved bead detail. The frame is then inset with padded, top grain leather richly studded with antique brass nail head trim.

The Milling Road collection also unveiled a substantial mirror that combines rattan and leather for an exotic touch. Set with beveled glass, the Rattan Round Mirror is created by bending a series of unpeeled rattan poles to form its round shape. The poles are then secured with leather bindings tied in a crisscross design.

The Pier Mirror rounds out the collection's offerings in sophisticated style. A commanding 40 inches in height, the mirror is fitted with panels of glass, elegantly decorated with brass rosettes at each of the four meeting points. Surrounding the mirror is a rectangular, hardwood frame finished in an illusionary hand-rubbed finish created by applying coats of red paint followed by top coats of black paint which is then deftly hand-rubbed through to reveal the red undertones.
