Baker Expands its Repertoire of Stylized Seating With An English Classics Regency Chair

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Baker introduced an inspired version of the Regency Chair at the Fall 2002 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C. Taking its cues from a wide range of 18th century design elements, Baker's Regency chair evokes a cosmopolitan flair reminiscent of the broad range of styles and decorative elements incorporated by the great artisans of that era.

The Regency Chair has a playful character that marries well with the fine display of hand craftsmanship used to create this unique, occasional chair. The elaborate form includes a open back with pierced crest rail and central splat in a clover-shaped design of Moorish influence, which is set between slightly curved faux bamboo turnings. The slightly bowed, faux bamboo turned arm design is mirrored in twin narrow faux bamboo lengths that provide side support. The arms and side supports are set back from the open woven cane seat, which is decorated with an exposed reeded edge, and fitted with a knife-edge cushion. The faux bamboo front legs splay gently out and taper at the feet. The back legs are of a simple, saber leg design. The legs are joined with an elaborate series of stretchers, with the front pair featuring a centered, floating sphere detail. A mottled tortoiseshell paint is then hand applied to finish the piece.
