GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For more than a century, Baker has been the hallmark of design excellence and uncompromising quality. Old-world craftsmanship, attention to detail and custom-selected materials are combined to create furniture with a classic sensibility in form, finish and function. Baker's versatility is apparent in the broad spectrum of its designs, from the ornately carved and gilded pieces comprising traditional collections such as Historic Charleston, The Thomas Pheasant Collection and Stately Homes, to the pared-down chic of the Barbara Barry, Archetype, and Bill Sofield for Baker. In essence, Baker offers options for living today with a full range of classic forms and proprietary finishes.
Founded in 1890 by Siebe Baker, a Dutch immigrant and craftsman, Baker has merged hand craftsmanship with modern methods to manufacture furniture of unmatched quality and distinction. In 1972, Baker merged with Knapp & Tubbs, the wholesale showroom network, and formed Baker Knapp & Tubbs, Inc. In 1986, Kohler Co. acquired Baker Knapp & Tubbs. As a member of the Kohler family of businesses, Baker continues to operate as a largely independent company, producing fine furniture in the tradition of the company's founder, with five plants located in Michigan, North Carolina, and Indonesia.
Baker Knapp & Tubbs, Inc. includes Baker furniture, Baker Knapp & Tubbs Showrooms and Baker Stores. Along with McGuire Furniture Company and Ann Sacks, it is part of the Kohler Interiors Group and a wholly owned subsidiary of Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath designs.
Kohler Co. was founded in 1873. Headquartered in Kohler, Wis., it is one of the oldest and largest privately held companies in the United States.
